Russian Fuel Oil to China at Record High May

Russian fuel oil exports are headed to China at a record pace this month.

  • It is set to sell over 350,000 barrels of fuel oil to China in May according to Kpler.
  • China has been picking up higher fuel oil volumes from Russia when western sanctions around the grade tightened.
  • The purchases have recently skyrocketed as Shandong province started conducting quality checks on bitumen mixture according to Bloomberg pushing buyers onto other grades.
  • Russia supplies about 35-40% of all China’s fuel oil according to Kpler.
  • Non-state refiners have used up around half of their current fuel oil import quotas according to Energy Aspects.
