Scholz: Confident That A Solution Will Be Found To IRA Concerns

US-EU

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, speaking at a press conference in Albania, has told reporters that he is confident that the EU and the US will find a solution to issues surrounding the US Inflation Reduction Act.

  • Scholz: "I am confident that this will involve a lot of work, a lot of effort, and certainly a lot of decisive decisions, but that in the end we will find a solution that we can all live with."
  • The IRA was high on the agenda yesterday at a meeting of the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) at the University of Maryland.
  • EU Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, and US Trade Rep Katherine Tai issued a joint statement after the ministerial session vowing to work constructively to resolve issues. "We acknowledge the EU's concerns and underline our commitment to address them constructively.”
  • Dombrovskis said: “I would say that really today we are leaving this meeting slightly more optimistic than we were entering this meeting. But... we still have a lot of work to do... we hope [talks] will deliver concrete results this year.”
