Scholz-I Discussed Natural Gas Imports w/Iraqi PM

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz states that he discussed the possibility of importing natural gas from Iraq during his meeting with the country's PM Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in Berlin earlier today.

  • Scholz also states that German and Iraqi grid collaboration will increase, with the comments coming as Iraq signs a deal with industrial giant Siemens.
  • The long-standing nature of the instability of Iraq's political and security raises some notable risks to Germany should it seek to plough significant investment into Iraqi gas projects.
