Scholz Tightens COVID Restrictions As Omicron Cases Rise

GERMANY

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has announced a further tighening of COVID restrictions in the country as Germany grapples with an escalating wave of Omicron cases.

  • In order to enter hospitality venues, individuals will be required to show either confirmation of two vaccine doses and a negative test, or proof of a third booster jab.

  • As can be seen on the char above, while Germany has recorded a spike in cases in recent weeks, the scale of the outbreak trails that seen in comparable nations. Given the noted transmissibility of the Omicron variant it seems very likely that even with enhanced restrictions, Germany is set to face a major uptick in new cases over the coming days and weeks.
