US: Sec. of State Mike Pompeo gives remarks to the India Ideas Summit on the

recent spike in Sino-Indian tensions on the contested Himalayan border on the

Line of Actual Control.

- Says the recent clashes were initiated by China's PLA, and are just examples

of the Chinese Communist Party's "unacceptable behaviour". 

- Comes as US administration rhetoric and actions regarding China have become

increasingly belligerent, follows the instruction of US gov't earlier today for

China to close its Houston consulate.

- US keen to gain India as a close military ally in Asia. Historically India has

been non-aligned in the region, with Pakistan operating as the US's military

partner. However, Islamabad has shifted towards Beijing as China funnels money

into Pakistani projects as part of its Belt and Road initiative.
