Sec State Blinken To Outline US China Strategy Tomorrow

11:00 ET 16:00 BST: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will deliver a speech tomorrow at George Washington University outlining US strategy towards China.

• The Biden administration has faced criticism from the GOP for failing to deliver a formal strategy for containing the threat from China. A delayed National Security Strategy is expected to be released in the coming weeks and Blinken's speech tomorrow may provide some key points.
• Reuters reports that the contents of the speech is not expected to be detailed and ‘would largely be a compilation of statements the administration has already made about China.’
• Blinken's speech comes at a particularly challenging time for Sino-US relation although fears that China may provide material support to the Russian war in Ukraine haven't materialised.
• President Joe Biden yesterday accused Beijing of interfering in negotiations over the China tech bill (United States Innovation and Competition Act) which is currently in Congressional conference.
• Biden: ‘Fundamentally, this is a national security issue. This is one of the reasons why the Chinese Communist Party is lobbying folks to oppose this bill.’
