Second Day Of ICJ Case Against Israel Begins

  • South Africa made its case during a hearing at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague Thursday, accusing Israel of genocide and seeking a court order that would make the country halt its military operation in Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the case, while Israeli diplomacy accused South Africa of "functioning as the legal arm of the Hamas terrorist organisation", as Israel's lawyers are preparing to outline their line of defence today.
  • Finance Minister Godongwana said that the Treasury is weighing its options for a cash injection for Transnet, with the logistics company blaming its performance on funding shortages, vandalism and corruption.
  • Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa suggested that the African National Congress (ANC) will use its January 8 birthday celebrations on Saturday to try and attract investors.
