SECURITY: IDF Will Attack Strongly Amid Ceasefire Violations In Lebanon, Halevi

SECURITY

Israeli Defence Force Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi said during a visit to southern Lebanon that the military will “attack strongly in the face of Hezbollah’s grave violations, and we will continue to do so.”

  • Halevi added: “We have plans and goals ready to be activated at any moment,” The comments come amid reports of ceasefire violations today by both Israeli and Hezbollah forces, and rising tensions in Syria which started shortly after the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire agreement.
  • Earlier today, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “We are determined to continue enforcing the ceasefire, and to respond to any violation by Hezbollah — a minor one will be treated like a major one.”
  • The Times of Israel reports: “US special envoy Amos Hochstein reportedly sent a message urging Israel to uphold the agreement. In particular, he cited Israeli drone flights over Beirut.”
  • Separately, US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters that US policy towards Syria “remains the same” stating that Washington wants to see, “a serious and credible political process to end this civil war once and for all.”
  • Miller says: “We don’t want to see any country try to take advantage of the instability in Syria… We want to see countries use their influence to push for de-escalation…”
  • Laura Rozen at Just Security notes that Netanyahu’s advisor, Minister Ron Dermer “arrives in DC this afternoon. Expected to discuss Gaza/hostages among other issues.”
