Sevastopol Gov-Russia Black Sea Fleet HQ Attacked

UKRAINE

Wires reporting comments from the Governor of Sevastopol, the largest city in the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula, stating that the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet have been attacked. This attack is the second in a week, and followswhat was seen as Ukraine's most ambitious missile attack on the Crimean peninsula since the start of the Russian invasion.

  • There were reports from Western outlets yesterday that UK-made Storm Shadow missiles had hit a fleet command post in the city, but these were initially rebuffed by the Russian-installed governor Mikhail Razvozhayev.
  • The disabling of the Russian Black Sea fleet, or at least increasing obstacles to its effective operation, remains a key objective for Ukraine in being able to secure the safe passage of cargo vessels to and from its Black Sea ports.
  • Nevertheless, a number of Western nations are believed to see Kyiv's continued focus on Crimea as a moot point, with its recovery from Russian occupation seen as unlikely. Instead, they see the prime focus for Kyiv as being the recovery of territory to get Ukraine back to it's boundaries before the Feb 2022 invasion before looking to return to its pre-2014 status.
