Several MPs Confirm Plot To Unseat PM Prayuth

THAILAND

The Bangkok Post reports that MPs from smaller Thai parties confirmed that they struck a secret deal with some key figures in the ruling Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) and the opposition Pheu Thai to topple PM Prayuth.

  • New Palangdharma Party leader Rawi Matchamadon said that "if the small parties joined the opposition in voting against the PM, they would have about 212 votes, which are enough to unseat Gen Prayuth".
  • The Bangkok Post sources noted that the secret deal was a result of a conflict between Prayuth, his Deputy Prawit and Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda.
  • A PPRP source told the newspaper that "previously there were about 40 MPs from various parties ready to oust" Prayuth but "supporters of the PM managed to persuade about 20 of them to switch back support".
