Siches To Become Head Of Candidate Boric's Campaign

  • Izkia Siches - In 2020 during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Chile, she played a major role due to her position as president of the Medical College, making recommendations for how to better contain the virus. She questioned the government's handling of the crisis, which led to disagreements with officials, however, her approval rating became one of the highest among Chilean public figures during the pandemic.
  • This news is not particularly surprising given Siches endorsed Gabriel Boric's presidential campaign prior to the Broad Front presidential primary.
    • Earlier this week she argued that she will join Boric "so that hope is possible in a next government (…) I want and I hope to be able to incorporate all the views of a country that, I do not doubt, wants this route to the future to be a calm, safe and luminous route ".
    • "I cannot stay out of the situation our country is experiencing", she stressed, underlining that "I do not want fear to rule Chile."
