Some Point To Waller Follow Through As A Catalyst For Weakness
Note that some are pointing to Asia-Pac follow through from Monday’s comments from Fed Governor Waller as a contributory factor in the Tsy sell off. This could be a factor given the low liquidity nature of Monday’s NY session.
- As a reminder, we flagged earlier that Waller reaffirmed his hawkish view, pointing to the need for 50bp rate hikes at the next several meetings (more aggressive than the “couple” touted by Chair Powell & others in recent weeks), while reaffirming a desire to take rates beyond neutral levels, if required, and stressing that noone should doubt the Fed’s commitment to taming inflation.
