Speaker Grants UQ On Home Sec Sacking @ 1030BST

UK

Speaker of the House Sir Linsday Hoyle has granted an urgent question to the opposition Labour Party regarding the removal of Home Secretary Suella Braverman yesterday. UQ at 1030BST (0530ET, 1130CET) Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper will be at the dispatch box for the opposition, it remains to be seen which gov't minister is put forward to answer, whether it is new Home Sec Grant Shapps or another minister from the Home Office.

  • Speculation that Braverman could speak from the backbenches on her alleged arguments with PM Liz Truss over immigration that may have contributed towards her dismissal.
  • A ninth Conservative MP, Sheryll Murray, has publicly called on Truss to resign as Conservative leader in the last few minutes. The PM expected to meet with backbench 1922 Committee chair Sir Graham Brady at around 1100BST.
  • Unknown to all but Brady at which point he will say to Truss that a significant proportion of the party wants her to go, meaning that a rule change is on the cards to allow her dismissal if she does not resign.
