Strikes Continue To Hit France’s Oil Sector

Industrial action at French refineries continued Monday with 27% of TotalEnergies’ refinery working attending strikes on Monday, while strikes at Exxon’s sites also continued according to both firms.

  • Around 27% of operators at Total’s French refineries have joined strike action on Monday, compared with 28% on 30 March and 32% at the start of last week.
  • Strikes interrupted fuel deliveries at most of Total’s sites, while output at the Feyzin refinery was reduced. Operations at the firm’s Gonfreville and Donges sites are halted. Strikes at the Dunkirk fuel depot ended, and fuel deliveries resumed last week.
  • Strikes also continued at Exxon Mobil’s refineries. The Gravenchon Port-Jerome refinery resumed fuel deliveries on Thursday but operations at the site remain halted. There has been no update on operations at the firm’s Fos refinery.
  • Industrial action at Fluxel’s Fos and Lavera oil terminals has been extended until further notice, a port agent said last week. Strike at the oil terminals began 13 March and were previously scheduled to end 31 March.
  • France has announced nationwide strike action on 6 April, while Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne is due to meet labour union leaders on 5 April.
