Sunak-'There Is A Role For EU Law In N Ireland But With Consent'

UK PM Rishi Sunak confirms that EU laws will still apply in Northern Ireland in some cases, arguing that "There is a role for EU law in Northern Ireland but that happens with consent.' Adds that the 'new agreement corrects the democratic deficit.'

  • European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says that 'the ECJ will have the final say on EU law and single market issues...the Stormont brake builds on the Northern Ireland peace process....we have several mechanisms to avoid having to use Stormont brake...the brake is for emergency use.'
  • Sunak confirms that parliament will have a vote. Implies that it will not happen in the immediate future, arguing the framework needs to be properly scrutinised by all sides before a vote.
