Support For Independence Hits 56% In Latest Poll

SCOTLAND

Latest opinion polling from Ipsos Scotland shows 56% of respondents in favour of an independent Scotland, with 44% opposed. This is an increase of 2% for Yes to independence since October and a 2% decline for the No camp. With undecideds included the figures turn to 53% in favour of independence and 42% opposed with 4% undecided.

  • Westminster voting intention: Scottish Westminster Voting Intention: SNP: 51% (+7), Labour: 25% (+2), Conservative: 13% (-6), Liberal Democrats: 6% (-4), Greens: 3% (=). Ipsos Scotland, Fieldwork 28 Nov - 5 Dec. Changes w/ 23-29 May. 1,065 respondents
  • Emily Gray of Ipsos Scotland says the results: "...show an increase in both support for independence and support for the SNP. Whether this is a temporary ‘bounce’ in the wake of the recent Supreme Court judgement or a longer-lasting trend remains to be seen. Meanwhile, with the judgement narrowing the legal pathways to a second referendum, the SNP is considering treating the next General Election as a de facto referendum on independence. This is a high-risk strategy for the party, who secured 45% of the vote in 2019. However, the indication from this poll is that, at this stage at least, this is not harming their electoral chances."
