Survey Reveals Polarised View Of Continued Aid To Ukraine And Israel

US

A new survey from PBS News Hour has illustrated the partisan divide on providing security assistance to allies at war: “Americans are split over whether the United States should play a major role in world events, including Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine and the recent eruption of the Israel-Hamas war. That division extends to if Congress should authorize supplemental military funds for Ukraine and Israel, according to this latest poll.”

  • PBS notes: “Thirty-six percent of U.S. adults said the nation should not approve more war funding in either Ukraine or in Israel, while 35 percent say the United States should support additional funding in both countries.”
  • With the mood in Congress appearing to shift away from Ukraine, the future of President Biden's USD$106 billion national security supplemental funding request remains unclear. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) appear unlikely to advance a bill on Ukraine without significant concessions on border policy or spending from the White House.
  • The PBS poll will provide additional support to House Republican claims that the hawkish foreign aid position of the Senate and White House are out of step with American voters.
