Swiss Hydro Stocks Fell to 54% of Capacity

Swiss hydropower reserves declined by 3.8 percentage points last week to 54% of capacity as of 29 January, widening the surplus to the five-year average as weekly declines slowed, BFE data showed.

  • Stocks saw a weekly decline of 6.5 percentage points the week prior.
  • The surplus over the five-year average widened to 6 points, up from 5.5 points a week earlier.
  • Reserves also widened the surplus to the long-term average – since 1997 – by 0.5 points last week to 10 points.
  • Hydropower output declined last week. Production from pumped storage fell by 582MW to 717MW last week. Output from reservoirs stood at 1.33GW last week, down from 2.12GW the week prior, Entso-E data showed.
