Taiwan Defence Ministry Reports Incursions Of Air Defence Zone

Per Reuters, the Taiwan Defence Ministry has reported that 21 Chinese aircraft entered Taiwan's air defence zone today, in response to the visit from US Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

  • A short time ago, the Taiwan Defence Ministry warned that China is planning to threaten key ports and cities by conducting drills around the island in coming days.
  • Retuers: "The defence ministry said in a statement the drills were aimed at psychologically intimidating Taiwan's citizens, adding the armed forces had "reinforced" their alertness level and citizens should not worry."
  • Chinese military drills are expected to run from August 4-7 and include joint air and sea drills, long range live firing and the Taiwan Strait, and missile test launches.
