FOREX: Tentative risk-on dents JPY, Meaningful Vote 2.5 keeps GBP lower
-Global equity markets advanced Friday morning, with Japanese equities higher by
1% but Chinese stocks outperformed, with the CSI300 closing higher by just shy
of 4%. US equity futures have gained in tandem, indicating a higher open on Wall
Street later today. Equity gains come alongside further reports in China
suggesting progress has been made between US and Chinese negotiators. This
prompted markets to sell JPY against all others in G10, but USD/JPY has been
unable to top Y111.00.
-GBP sits lower for a second session ahead of 'Meaningful Vote 2.5' in which PM
May will attempt to pass her withdrawal agreement through the House of Commons.
Odds remain stacked against the PM, with parliamentary maths pointing to another
defeat. GBP/USD sits just above the $1.30 handle at writing.
-US MNI Chicago PMI, Personal Income/Spending, New Home Sales and Canadian GDP
take focus for the rest of Friday. Further Fed speakers are up, with Kaplan and
Quarles due as well as ECB exec board member Coeure, where he'll likely be
watched for any mention of deposit rate tiering.
