CHINA STOCKS: The policy measures implemented by the Chinese powers that be to
support stocks have been highlighted previously and well documented. We have
also pointed to China-HK Stock Connect flows resulting in some support for
Chinese mainland equity markets since the return from the elongated LNY holidays
(with the latest tally given after the close on Monday).
- But there may be another piece to the puzzle, Chinese retail trading swelling
because of Coronavirus quarantine. The Global Times highlighted the following
late on Monday: China's central securities depository showed 800K new trading
accounts were opened in January, with the nation's total securities trading
accounts hitting 160.55mn, +8.83% Y/Y.
