Time Ticking Down On Stimulus Deal

US
Senate Maj. Leader McConnell has apparently agreed to put a large stimulus deal to a vote on the Senate floor if both the White House/House Democrats can make a deal, per White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. Recall last week McConnell said $1.8T was too large for him to put to a vote to the Senate given significant opposition within his own Republican ranks.
  • Per CNBC's @ylanmui: "Meadows on COVID relief talks, per pool: McConnell has agreed to put bill on Senate floor if WH/Pelosi reach a deal..."Senate Republicans have been very vocal in terms of their *lack* of support."...Latest WH offer is almost $1.9T"
  • Even if it does go to a vote, it seems unlikely to pass the Senate given significant Republican opposition as noted by Meadows. McConnell meanwhile is pushing forward with a vote on a $500B package that Democrats are unlikely to support, alongside a stand-alone PPP vote.
  • Focus remains on Tuesday's "deadline" set by Speaker Pelosi to reach a deal on stimulus, which even if reached would likely have to see the House reconvene by this Saturday at the latest in order to get a bill passed before the election.
