Trafigura Vessels Currently Stay Clear of Gulf of Aden

There are currently no vessels on behalf of Trafigura transiting the Gulf of Aden, following the Houthi rebel attack on Friday, as the company is assessing the risks involved in transiting the region, the firm said in a statement.

  • "No further vessels operating on behalf of Trafigura are currently transiting the Gulf of Aden and we continue to assess carefully the risks involved in any voyage, including in respect of security and safety of the crew, together with shipowners and customers," a Trafigura statement said.
  • Yemen’s Houthi rebels launched a missile attack on Friday that sparked a fire on a fuel tanker operated by Trafigura, carrying Russian naphtha. A missile struck the fuel tanker Marlin Luanda as it transited the Red Sea. By Saturday morning, the fire had been fully extinguished, and the crew was safe, a Trafigura spokesperson said.
