Treasury Minister-No Plans To Reverse Tax Measures From Fiscal Event

UK

Chief Secretary to the Treasury Chris Philip answering urgent question from Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves on the economic and financial market turbulence UK is experiencing.

  • Chair of Treasury Select Committee Mel Stride (a Conservative MP) says a rowing back of the fiscal event may be forced by markets to reverse tax cuts. Philip states that there are 'no plans to reverse tax measures from the fiscal event'. Should be noted that Philip's comment saying no plans to reverse comes just after he said Chancellor always listens carefully to the select committee chair and listened to him on shifting medium term fiscal plan up from Nov to 31 Oct.
  • Philip: 'Fundamentals of UK economy remain resilient...we intend to do this in a fiscally sustainable way'.
