Morning Consult’s presidential election tracker continues to point to a near dead-heat in the expected 2024 presidential rematch between President Biden and former President Donald Trump.
- Morning Consult: “Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, leads the incumbent president by 1 percentage point (44% to 43%) in our latest national tracking survey, compared with a 1-point deficit last week. While Trump consistently led Biden during most of the first two months of 2024, the race has narrowed in recent weeks.”
- The polling comes as the White House seeks to address voter concerns over Biden's age and mental acuity - one of the President's primary political vulnerabilities.
- Following a well received State of the Union Address, Biden has embarked on a multi-stop tour of swing states which breaks from the past few months when his schedule has included few public appearances.
- Bettor Smarkets sees the State of the Union as slightly benefiting Biden with the gap shrinking slightly from 50%-30% implied probability of Trump winning prior to the speech to 46% 35% today.
