Political betting markets are increasingly seeing former President Donald Trump favourite to take the GOP presidential nomination as the initial post-midterm election surge of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) recedes.
- DeSantis has been seen as favourite to take the nomination for much of this year but recent momentum sees Trump with a 51% implied probability of taking the nomination, according to Smarkets.
- Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) told the Washington Examiner yesterday that he will make a decision on running for president in the next 45 to 60 days.
- Christie told the Examiner that his decision may be based upon his belief that Trump would be unable to defeat Biden in 2024: “With Donald Trump at the top of the ticket, you can be sure of the fact that we’ll have another four years of Joe Biden, and that to me is not acceptable for this country.”
