Trump Report - No Widespread Fraud In GA 2020, Indictments Remain Sealed

US

A Georgia judge has released portions of a grand jury report investigating former President Donald Trump's alleged attempt overturn the 2020 election result in Georgia.

  • The unsealed report shows that the grand jury determined by unanimous vote that no widespread fraud took place in Georgia's 2020 election and President Biden's win was legitimate.
  • The case, considered one of the most threatening to Trump, was opened by prosecutors in February 2021, shortly after Trump urged Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to "find 11,780 votes."
  • Prosecutors argue that Trump, his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, and other members of Trump's team conspired to commit election fraud and attempted to undermine the election result.
  • Clark Cunningham, a professor at Georgia State University College of Law told the NYT: “We’re at the cusp of something consequential, I think."
  • A list of recommended indictments remains sealed to allow named individuals adequate opportunity to defend themselves.
  • Reuters: "Trump, who has launched another run for the White House in 2024, has made false claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him through widespread voting fraud. He has denied wrongdoing and accused [Prosecutor] Willis of targeting him for political reasons."
