Tug-Of-War Re: Czechia's EC Candidate Continues, Local Markets Closed

  • E15 ran an opinion piece flagging the risk that internal political disputes might weaken Czechia's negotiating position in the process of allocating a portfolio to its next European Commissioner. The coalition agreement stipulated that the now defunct alliance of the Pirate Party and STAN would nominate the Czech candidate to the EU's top executive body, but both parties are claiming the right after their pre-election pact was dissolved. This may prolong the process of selecting a mutually acceptable candidate, weakening Czechia's position in the race for the best portfolio.
