Turkey To Take Steps to Establish Physical Gas Hub

NATURAL GAS

Turkey is continuing to take steps to ensure it can act as a transit hub for Russian gas to reach Europe, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Sep. 11 according to TASS.

  • In the future Ankara plans to "take steps to create a physical base for natural gas trade in Turkey," Erdogan said.
  • "The world price for natural gas will be set in Turkey, especially taking into account the specific steps that we will take. We discussed the option of a natural gas hub in Trakya with Putin in Sochi. Approximately 40-50% of the gas coming to Trakya will meet Turkey’s needs, but Europe is now expecting natural gas from us," Erdogan said.
  • Erdogan also said that there are plans to establish a trade centre in Atasehir in Istanbul which would be an exchange platform for trading energy, metals, and natural resources.
