Turkish, Iraqi Ministers Discuss To Restart Oil Flows After Repairs

OIL

Turkish and Iraqi energy ministers discussed the importance of restarting crude oil flows from Iraq’s northern fields to Turkey as soon as possible, following the completion of the necessary inspection activities that had to be carried out after the earthquakes in Turkey in February, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said on a social media post.

  • Alparslan Bayraktar and the Iraqi Oil Minister Hayyan Abdul Ghani met in Ankara on Tuesday to discuss issues including the resumption of oil flows between the two nations. They did not reach an agreement to immediately resume oil flows but agreed to hold more talks in the future, energy sources with knowledge of the meeting told Reuters.
  • Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will hold high-level meetings in Baghdad and Erbil on 22-24 August according to his office, possibly to further discuss oil issues.
  • Flows from Iraq’s northern oil fields in the Kurdistan region to the Turkish port of Ceyhan were halted on 25 March.
