Tusk In Brussels-'Need To Use All Methods To Unblock EU Funds'

Wires carrying comments from Polish opposition leader, and likely next prime minister, Donald Tusk. The former Polish PM and President of the European Council is in Brussels for talks with Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Parliament President Roberta Metsola regarding the potential unfreezing of blocked EU funds. Tusk: "My purpose is to build up Poland's position in Europe...the election results showed that democracy and rule of law are still important for Polish citizens....We need to use all methods, even non-standard ones, to unblock EU funds."

  • Euractiv: "The EU Commission has frozen €35.4 million for Poland under the RRF, conditioning the release of the money on having achieved a couple of milestones related to the rule of law, which the Polish government agreed with Brussels. So far, the EU executive found PiS’ attempts to deliver on the milestones unsatisfactory."
