UK Gov't: 'Court Conflict' w/EU Serves No-One's Interest

Wires carrying comments from UK gov't regarding the EU Commission's announcement earlier today that it would be launching four new infringement proceedings against the UK for what it says are breaches of the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement (see: https://marketnews.com/commission-launches-4-new-i...).

  • UK gov't: We will evaluate the EU's arguments and respond as soon as possible.
The rapid progress of the Northern Ireland Protocol bill through the UK House of Commons seen as the trigger for EU bringing these infringement proceedings against the UK. Should be noted, there remains a major obstacle to its unamended passage in the form of the House of Lords, where the governing Conservative Party does not hold a majority. Peers could well seek to hold-up the passage of the bill, which critics and EU state violates international law, for some time.
