UK Lowers Capacity Market Volumes For 2025-26

The UK is aiming to secure 6.5GW in the next capacity market auction in March 2025 for 2025-26 delivery, down from 7.6GW secured in the previous auction, the government said, cited by Montel.

  • The price of the auction next year is capped at £75/kW/yr for delivery in 2025-26, compared to £35.79kW/yr secured for 7.6GW in the auction in February for delivery in 2024-25. This is slightly down from the 7.7GW targeted in that auction.
  • The auction next March will also be for capacity for 2028-29 delivery, with 44GW aimed to be secured by the UK.
  • In comparison, the auction for 2027-28 delivery some 42.8GW were secured for £65/kW/yr.
