Ukr Media Claims Russia Using Mines In Black Sea

UKRAINE

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has addressed the Norwegian Parliament and warned that a Russian withdrawal is not taking place.

  • The address comes amidst increased speculation that Russia is using ceasefire negotiations to regroup for a new offensive and potentially planning a naval blockade of Ukrainian exports.
  • Zelensky says that Russia is sending additional forces into Ukraine and has warned of the prospect of an offensive from the Black Sea.
  • Ukrainian media has also today warned over a new risk presented by Russian mines in the Black Sea. The Kyiv Independent: 'Russian Federation units are dumping free-floating sea mines into the Black Sea, threatening commercial navigation potentially for years to come.'
  • Earlier today Ukraine engaged in talks with Romania about prospect of shipping grain exports from Romanian Black Sea port of Constanta.
  • A Russia blockade of Ukrainian exports would represent a significant geopolitical risk to already stretch global food supplies.
  • Zelensky has also used the address to urge Norway to supply more oil and gas to Ukraine and the EU.
