Ukraine To Be Provided With EUR1.2bn In EU Assistance

EU COMMISSION

European Commission tweets: "Ukraine is a priority partner for the European Union. We have just adopted a proposal for new macro-financial assistance for Ukraine of up to EUR1.2 billion – on top of EUR5.6 billion already provided under five previous programmes. EUR 600 million will be disbursed swiftly, after approval by the European Council and European Parliament. [Another] EUR600 million will be disbursed after agreeing with Ukrainian authorities on short-term policy measures to strengthen state-building and resilience efforts."

  • The adoption of the proposal by the Commission means the approval process moves onto the European Council (composed of member state heads of gov't/ministers), and the European Parliament. Despite the lukewarm support being offered to Ukraine by some member states, the planned financial support is likely to be approved by both institutions.
