Ukraine to Increase EU Power Imports on Monday

POWER

Ukraine intends to increase the amount of power imports from EU countries for some hours on Monday, after recent Russian missile attacks have damaged its power infrastructure, according to Ukrainian TSO Ukrenergo, cited by XM.

  • "The total volume is 16.25GWh, with a maximum capacity of up to 1.7GWh in some hours," grid operator Ukrenergo said.
  • Ukraine would import electricity from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Moldova.
  • Ukraine is currently limited to importing no more than 1.7GWh of electricity from EU states at the same time.
  • But it is possible to maximise import capabilities to as high as 2.4GWh, the energy minister said on Friday. The government is currently negotiating that possibility.
  • Ukrainian DTEK said earlier this month that 2.2GWh would improve the situation.
  • The attacks have caused a loss of 8GWh of generating capacity from the energy system, the government says - 90% of its generation capacity.
