Reuters, citing a Ukrainian general, reporting that, "Ukraine forces have raised Ukrainian flag in settlement of Robotyne in Zaporizhia region."
- Robotyne is considered a crucial position for Ukraine to occupy if they are to successfully push South towards Melitopol and sever the Russian 'land-bridge' to Crimea.
- Comes after the New York Times yesterday published an critical assessmentof the war in Ukraine based upon US security and defence intelligence which argued that Kyiv was ineffectively distributing its assets based upon flawed strategy.
- The Times article lent weight to a recent perception in the West that Ukraine's counteroffensive was progressing at a pace insufficient to make strategic gains before autumn and winter rains hinder the offensive.
- White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan yesterday pushed back against suggestions war had become a stalemate: "...we do not assess that the conflict is a stalemate... we continue to support Ukraine in its effort to take territory as part of its counteroffensive, and we are seeing it continue to take territory on a methodical, systematic basis."
