UN: Israel's Netanyahu Among Speakers In Friday UNGA Session

UN

The fourth day of the UN General Assembly general debate plenary session gets underway at the top of the hour with an address by Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu likely to prove the most high-profile address of the Friday sessions. Netanyahu is due to speak at around 0930ET/1430BST/1530CET. Full schedule can be found here and a livestream here. Netanyahu's address will be followed closely for signs of whether a ceasefire in Lebanon, supported by the US and potentially backed by Hezbollah and Iran, is on the table or whether Israeli forces will move towards a ground operation on Lebanese territory.

  • Other notable speakers in the 27 September session include South Korean Foreign Minister Tae-yul Cho at around 1800ET (2300BST/0700JST) and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong at ~1815ET.
  • Saturday 28 September will - in line with the UN custom of the order of speaking precedence descending from head of state, to head of government, to ministerial level - see a number of sizeable emerging market foreign ministers deliver addresses on behald of their governments. These include: China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi @ ~0945ET (1445BST/1545CET), Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov @ ~1115ET (1615BST/1715CET), Mexico's Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena Ibarra @ ~1130ET (1630BST/1730CET), India's Minister of External Affairs S.
