UPDATE: Ship Catches Fire After Being Struck Near Yemen

A merchant ship has been struck and caught fire around 55m Southeast of Aden in the Red Sea, according to Ambrey analytics.

  • Ambrey did not name the ship involved, but there are reports, including from a Houthi spokesperson via X, that it was the Marlin Luanda ((IMO 9829899).
  • In a post on X, the Houthis said that they had made a direct strike on the “British oil tanker” the Marlin Luanda.
  • The cargo tank carrying naphtha caught fire, according to reports.
  • The Marlin Luanda was already involved in an attempted attack this morning, according to TradeWinds.
  • UKMTO reported another incident at the same location. This was initially thought to be further details of this morning’s attempted attack but may in fact be a separate incident involving the same ship.
  • The Marlin Luanda is owned by Oceonix Services Ltd – a UK company. It is operated by Trafigura and flagged with the Marshall Islands.
