US cooling demand for the week ending March 22 is forecast to be 1 cooling degree day (CDD) below the long-term normal, according to Bloomberg, citing the NOAA.

  • The regions with the largest deviation from the normal are the E S Central, 5 CDD below average, South Atlantic, 4 CDD below average, and W S Central, 3 CDD below average.
  • In terms of states with the greatest deviations, Mississippi is forecast to be 9 CDD below average, followed by Alabama at 7 CDD below normal and Florida at 7 CDD below average.
  • This week’s total forecast for CDD is 4, compared to a normal of 5 and unchanged from the actual figure of 4 from last week.
  • During the week to March 15, the US was in line with the long-term normal.
  • Hawaii was the state with the highest CDD deviation at 22 CDD above normal, followed by Texas at 9 CDD above average.
  • CDD measures the number of degrees that the mean daily temperature is above 65 degrees Fahrenheit, summed across an entire week. Greater values signify higher heating demand.
