US DATA: Broad M/M Acceleration In Regional Fed CPI Metrics

  • Cleveland Fed median CPI: 0.34% M/M in Sep after 0.26%, surpassing the 0.31% in July for technically its fastest since April. That’s a reasonable acceleration from the 0.19% M/M in June marking its softest since Jan 2021
  • Cleveland Fed 16% trimmed mean CPI: 0.30% M/M after 0.19% for its fastest since March.
  • Atlanta Fed sticky core CPI ex shelter: 0.34% M/M after four soft months averaging 0.07% M/M. It was also the fastest since April.  
  • In Y/Y terms, the Cleveland Fed median edged from 4.16% to a new recent low of 4.08% whilst the trimmed mean dipped from 3.22% to 3.17% Y/Y for a new low since Jul 2021.
  • The Atl Fed’s sticky core ex shelter held at 2.9% Y/Y for a second month having dropped in August to its lowest since February eased from 3.06% to 2.89%.
