/US: Japan & U.S. Leaders To Meet On G20 Sidelines

The leaders of Japan and the United States are planning to meet on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali this month, Sankei reports citing government multiple sources.

  • It is expected that the leaders will discuss joint response to China's ambitions regarding Taiwan, , Russia's war in Ukraine and the geopolitical risk posed by North Korea.
  • It will be the first official face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since the G7 summit held in June, albeit they had a brief informal chat at the fringes of the United Nations General Assembly in September.
  • Sankei reports that Prime Minister Kishida may also seek meetings with his Chinese and South Korean counterparts, given that their leaders are expected to attend the G20 meeting.
