US NSA-Russia Deepening Ties w/Iran Should Be Seen As Profound Threat

Speaking ahead of US President Joe Biden touching down in Israel for a 4-day Middle East trip, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan states that with Russian President Vladimir Putin visiting Tehran next week for talks with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, that "Russia deepening a relationship with Iran to kill Ukrainians is something the world should see as a profound threat".

  • Says that he has no evidence that Iran are supplying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to Russia, but says the timing of Putin's visit is 'interesting' and that the countries are engaging on the matter.
  • Sullivan says that Iran should accept the west's offer to return to the nuclear deal, but adds "at the same time we are not holding back in terms of enforcing sanctions...increase[ing] economic pressure on Iran".
  • States that “Continued progress on Yemen alone would be a significant achievement” for Biden's trip to the Middle East and talks with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
