US Rules Out ATACMS To UKR Despite UK Transfer Of Long-Range Missiles

SECURITY

A spokesperson for the White House National Security Council has told the Daily Mail that the US will not send long-range ATACMS missile systems to Ukraine despite confirmation that the UK has transferred comparable Storm Shadow long-range missiles to Kyiv.

  • James Franey at the Daily Mail tweets: "The White House rules out giving long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine despite Britain's announcement that it will send Storm Shadows to Kyiv's armed forces. 'Our policy on ATACMS has not changed,' a NSC spokesman told the Daily Mail. The weapons have a range of 185 miles."
  • CNN broke the story earlier today writing, "The Storm Shadow is a long-range cruise missile with stealth capabilities, jointly developed by the UK and France, which is typically launched from the air. With a firing range in excess of 250km, or 155 miles, it is just short of the 185-mile range capability of the US-made surface-to-surface Army Tactical Missile Systems, or ATACMS, that Ukraine has long asked for."
