US Secretary of State Blinken To Hold Key Meetings At UNGA Today

US

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will hold bilateral meetings, including with UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, at the UN General Assembly in New York today.

  • The UNGA, expected to be dominated by the war in Ukraine and ongoing food security crisis, may be overshadowed by high-profile absentees: Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russia President Vladimir Putin, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. All of whom attended last week's Shanghai Cooperation Agreement summit in Uzbekistan.
  • Blinken is expected to raise the Northern Ireland Protocol with Cleverly, in the first formal in-person engagements between the Biden Administration and officials of the new UK administration of Prime Minister Liz Truss.
    • 10:00 ET 15:00 BST: Strengthening Atlantic Cooperation Ministerial Meeting
    • 14:00 ET 19:00 BST: Food Security Ministerial Meeting
    • 16:00 ET 21:00 BST: Blinken bilateral with Kenyan President William Ruto
