Bloomberg reporting that US President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team is, "crafting an executive order to lift a moratorium on natural gas export permits that was put in place by the Biden administration, people familiar with the matter said." The executive order, which covers LNG exports to non-Free Trade Agreement countries, would fulfil a campaign pledge to revoke the pause on his “very first day back.”
- Bloomberg notes: "The move is part of broader package of actions on US energy planned for Trump’s early days in office, said the people who asked not to be named because the information is private. The LNG executive order could mandate that the Energy Department approve pending export permits, or it could direct the agency to resume its review of applications as part of directives on energy policy, though a final approach has not yet been determined, the people said."
- According to the report, opening more federal land to drilling and a reduction of environmental regulation - two other key campaign promises - are also expected to be included in the executive order.
- ClearView Energy Partners said in a research note ahead of the presidential election: “Former President Donald Trump has campaigned on authorizing non-FTA exports as a ‘day-one’ priority if he wins the Presidency. We reiterate that he might not be able to hit that target if the DOE publishes unflattering economic and environmental assessments between Election Day and Inauguration Day.”
