USDCAD Holds Drift Off Lows As WTI Slips

CANADA
  • USDCAD at 1.3686 has drifted off earlier lows of 1.3655, initially helped by the S&P 500 fleetingly turning negative on the day before WTI pushing towards week-to-date lows (-2%) offset the impact from a bounce in equities.
  • The session low cleared support at the 50-day EMA of 1.3670 to open 1.3629 (Nov 6 low) closely followed by 1.3611 (trendline support drawn from Jul 14 low).
  • Going against that could be some sway from sizeable expiry for tomorrow’s NY cut at 1.3750 ($1.35B).
  • Today’s local data has shown stronger than first thought wholesale and manufacturing sales although existing home sales were notably weaker than expected in October as the housing market increasingly moves closer to balance when looks at months of supply.
