US

A widely reported New York Times/Siena College survey has thrown up more warning signs for President Biden ahead of a likely rematch with former President Donald Trump in November.

  • According to the survey, only 18% of voters believe that Biden's policies have benefited them personally. A striking gap to the 40% who believe Trump's policies benefited them personally.
  • That gap is reflected on the negative side of the equation with 43% reporting that Biden's policies hurt them personally, compared to 25% for Trump.

Highlighting a potential problem for a White House strategy focusing on women's reproductive rights on the campaign trail.
  • More broadly the survey results suggest that the policy agenda of both candidates is intertwined with perceptions of the economy - still a major vulnerability for Biden despite a recent easing of voter concerns.
