US DATA: WEEKLY JOBLESS CLAIMS +109K TO 1.416 MLN IN JULY 18 WEEK

-U.S. initial unemployment claims rebounded for the first time since peaking in
April, rising by 109,000 in the week ending July 18 for a total of 1.416
million. Weekly filings have remained well above 1 million since the mid-March
start of the coronavirus pandemic. Continuing claims, which lags by a week,
dropped a steep 1.11 million to 16.197 million in the week ending July 11. 
-As of July 4, 48 states had reported 13,179,880 individuals claiming Pandemic
Unemployment Assistance benefits (for independent contractors and gig workers)
and 45 states saw 940,113 individuals claiming Pandemic Emergency Unemployment
Compensation benefits. 
-The states with the highest insured unemployment rates were Puerto Rico
(26.0%), Nevada (21.3%), Hawaii (20.7%), Georgia (18.0) and California (16.9%).
