White House NSC-Hope Biden-Xi Meeting Precursor To More Dialogue

(MNI) London - Wires carrying comments from White House National Security Coordinator John Kirby, states that "We can certainly expect that coming out of this bilateral discussion that our two teams - up and down the chain of command - will continue to communicate." and that "We're all expecting that this will be a productive discussion today, and hopefully, a precursor to much more communication and dialogue between our two teams going forward."

  • Kirby: "We do not want to see the tensions across Taiwan strait devolve into any kind of conflict."
  • Kirby also states that he does not expect a readout of the meeting to be released before President Biden's press conference later today. Kirby: "The presidents opening statement will serve [as] a comprehensive read out of the meeting."
  • Reminderthat the two are due to meet at 1100 local time (1400ET, 1900GMT, 0400JST), with Biden holding a presser at around 1615 local time (1915ET, 0015GMT, 0915JST)
